SOLAR POWER

Let there be light and power to run computers and printers and more!

Electricity is a rarity in rural Tanzania.  Friends of Meali has installed solar power systems at Meali Primary School, both in the student center to support the computers and in the teacher housing units.  For the school and its immediate community, we believe solar power is the right choice.  For one thing, it could take years to convince anyone to extend the electricity grid to such remote areas.  In addition, the ongoing costs to the community are much lower for solar than for traditional electric power.  We have followed this pattern as we built the student center and teacher housing at the Losirwa Primary School. At night people say the place looks like New York City.  There is no other lighting around. Oldeani Primary School already has access to electricity; we need further research to determine whether solar will be needed there.
